Kingdom Hospital prefers the moment over the scenic, stock characters, and small plots, designed....The result, Kingdom Hospital , is (we can only hope) a befuddled retirement party for King's clichés.....the "9 to 5" 45 was not the first record I purchased, and highbrow my way out of my early passion for Stephen King.....What haunts Kingdom Hospital most is the recurrent intrusion of clumsy, forced humor..... ... scenes which should be grotesque (a brain surgery patient sits up mid-procedure) play whimsical....one presumes, the TV version of King's "The Shining" (while playing like a community theatre rendition of "The Singing Detective"), "Kingdom Hospital" is awkward at best and eye-clawing hokum at its worst.....The only pursuit in "Kingdom Hospital" for the erudite viewer and for King himself is onanistic--a particular form of self-abuse allegedly pleasurable....Lots of chitchatting about how the project got off ...
